The Wound

House Eagles’ wound is not a defeat. It is the suspicion — held quietly, in a city that would deny it under oath — that the rest of the realm considers them a lesser house dressed up in a good year.

So they made it the motto. No One Likes Us. They put the thing that hurt on the banner and walked out under it, which is the most emotionally healthy decision any house in this realm has ever made.

Then last January they went 11–6, hosted the first round, and lost at home to San Francisco, 23–19. Four points. The city took it exactly as well as you would expect.

The Untested Hand

This house won a throne in February 2025 and then, the following winter, took the division and lost at home in the first round — 23–19 to San Francisco. Four points. A defence of the title that ended in January with the crowd still in the building.

The response was to hand the offence to Sean Mannion, who has never called plays in a professional game.

Not rarely. Never. Philadelphia looked at a four-point home defeat and an offence that had stopped producing, and appointed a man with no experience of the specific job, in the most impatient city in the realm, with a lord whose method has been publicly argued about for four years.

If it works, it is the boldest appointment of the offseason and everyone will say they saw it. If it does not, this crowd will know inside three weeks and will make certain he knows too. There is no quiet version of being wrong here.

The Lord

Jalen Hurts. Short, enormous through the legs, and in possession of the least glamorous method in the sport: take the ball, go forward four yards, repeat until the game is over. It has won him a throne. The realm still argues about him weekly.

The Knights
